He also coached 3 seasons for Team Washington and 2 for Next Level at the 7/8 level.

His motto is “Better Every Day”!!

Brian Bruininks

Coach Bruininks (“Coach B”) grew up in Minnesota and moved to Seattle in 1993.  After graduating from Colorado College in 1992, Coach B played ice hockey professionally in Europe and the US (1992-1994, 1997).

After moving to Seattle, Coach B began coaching youth hockey and has since coached at almost every youth level (both rec and select teams).  Over the past 30 years, Coach B has jumped in to coach a multitude of sports/teams, including LVR youth soccer, youth hockey, youth lacrosse (North Seattle and Seattle Starz) and youth box lacrosse (Seattle Starz).

Coach B was introduced to lacrosse while at Colorado College (did not play) and again in 2009 when Henry (oldest son) was in 1st grade through a friend who was a 4 year starter and captain of the Colorado College lacrosse team (D3). The following 2 years Coach B ran (with 3 other dads) a Friday night learn to play lacrosse program at Arena Sports on Friday nights with 3rd/4th graders.  Coach B’s son Henry started playing for North Seattle Youth Lacrosse in 4th grade for Coach Wright.  A year later Coach B started volunteering as an assistant coach with North Seattle and subsequently coached as both an assistant and head coach for the next 10+ years alongside Coach Rubio and Scott Ward.  In addition, Coach B was the Seattle Starz 2024 Elite Co-Head Coach from 2016-2020 (middle school).

In 2022, Coach B came out to help the Roosevelt JV lacrosse program (part time) and jumped in full time the following season to support the RHS lacrosse program as one of the primary JV coaches alongside Coach Rubio.

Wife Alli, sons Henry, Wilson and Ike (both playing for Roosevelt). Coach B enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities, including biking, hiking, snowboarding, fishing and climbing.

Douglas Dohan

Douglas Dohan (AKA Coach D) is entering his second season as an Assistant Coach with the Roosevelt High School Roughriders Boys Lacrosse Team. Prior to joining Roosevelt, he assisted the North Seattle Blackfish 7/8 team, where he focused on player development and building strong fundamentals.

Douglas is also a certified USA Lacrosse Referee, bringing a deep understanding of the game, its rules, and sportsmanship to his coaching approach. He grew up on Long Island, New York, where he developed a lifelong passion for lacrosse, and went on to play defense at Wesleyan University in the 1990s.

He finds coaching to be one of the most rewarding experiences, particularly in watching players grow—not just in their skills on the field, but in their confidence, teamwork, and belief in themselves. Douglas is proud to support the Roughriders program and help foster a positive, challenging, and fun environment for student-athletes.

Agustin Rubio

Agustin Rubio has been coaching with the local community since 2009. He moved to Seattle from Atlanta, Georgia with his wife, Dr. Sarah Handley, and two boys Aidan and Ethan. He grew up in Maryland where he played lacrosse for fun but he dedicated most of his time to swimming. He went to high school in Washington D.C and was captain of the Swim Team for three years as a varsity swimmer. He then went to Bucknell University to swim his freshman and sophomore year. He also played club lacrosse in the Spring. He went on to medical school and completed his pediatric residency and Chief Residency at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. He and his wife moved to Philadelphia where his wife finished her sub-specialty training and he completed a NIH Research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He then took a position to train as a pediatric cardiologist at Emory University School of Medicine. He is currently on staff at Seattle Children’s Hospital as a Pediatric Interventional Cardiologist. During his time in Seattle, he has also coached youth soccer, youth basketball, and youth lacrosse.

His two boys, Aidan and Ethan started playing lacrosse in grade school with North Seattle Lacrosse Club, where he coached alongside Coach Bruininks. It was the lacrosse community that became their home. The coaches at North Seattle provided an inclusive, encouraging, “team-first” approach to sports. It was the place where it was safe to be themselves. Aidan went on to play for O’Dea High School Lacrosse & Cityside Lacrosse Club,  as a lefty attack man.  He is currently playing at Swarthmore College (DIII) in Philadelphia. Ethan also played for O’Dea High School Lacrosse & Cityside Lacrosse Club as a face-off specialist. Ethan has gone on to excel in hockey and currently plays for the AAA Jr Kraken. Although they ultimately chose their own paths, they began their journeys with a foundation of teamwork, accountability and respect for others, the cornerstones of our lacrosse community.
